A creative force to be reckoned with, Jenny Fares has been an active player in Asheville’s artistic community for nearly twenty years. Jenny is a mover, shaker, and all around crowd rouser. Her collaborations are a walloping cacophony of sound and fury, art and fun. She thrives in creative, energetic circles - and it shows. Jenny started her graphic design career working for some of Atlanta’s top ad agencies, designing for Coca-Cola, M&M, Mars and UPS. She left the big city for the relaxed pace of Asheville, and opened her design firm Sound Mind Creative in 2004. While building a national client base, Jenny collaborated with a handful of Asheville’s rising agencies. She was honored to be named Best of Graphic Design in WNC by Mountain Xpress readers in 2012 and 2013.
With a personal battle cry, “Power to the People!”, Jenny’s humanitarian efforts reflect her creative, playful heart - benefiting the good people of Asheville in countless ways. She was very recently featured on the cover of Asheville Citizen-Times for creating a “legacy of innovative music programming” for the city, because of on going events she founded like Music Video Asheville and the Brown Bag Songwriting Competition. She currently directs the Asheville Design Salon a monthly event that supports the graphic design and creative professionals highlighting the work of over 60 designers, photographers, developers, illustrators and more as well as panels on subjects like branding, trademark law and best business practices. The Design Salon is proud to be co-creating a 130ft mural for the City of Asheville called the Love Asheville Mural.
In summer 2018, Jenny moved to the studio in the Curve Studios, River Arts District to create a body of work in collaboration with her husband and engineer Maurice Fares. He built a CNC machine (computerized carving machine) in their home studio where he carves and finishes the art pieces. Jenny designs the artwork using her graphic design skills and hand paints the game pieces and calendar pegs. Fares Studio is creating functional art that aims to connect people to art through interactive games and calendars/time trackers. Jenny is also beginning her career as a muralist completing 4 major projects by Fall 2018, including one covering an entire city block.
